this would be a great fit for the IETF working group, but it would need to be in the next phase (eg, next charter: lexicon is not under current charter)

afaik a map key can't be validated in stock lexicon at all, but an array item's `lang` can be `format: "language"`, so you keep the BCP-47 check (regional variants and all), on a value not a key.

So you'd lose the `.nl` access, but keep the validation.

Technically the keys are not arbitrary, there is a finite set - but it certainly seems easier to treat it as arbitrary, especially given the possibility of regional variants (`en-GB`, etc).

hmm yeah that makes sense. I was trying to think of an elegant single solutuon for both but maybe that is just not needed to begin with.

The more I think about it the more I agree this is the direction for profiles. I still like the reference-based method for posts as it seems more flexible.

This would also allow alt profiles in general if you keyed by TID instead of lang. Though I don’t know how useful that is for Sifa

@jauntywunderkind.bsky.social / @caesar.dev: @adammika.cz flagged an issue with the two-records route: can't have two self-keyed records of one lexicon, so they'd need connecting somehow (the hreflang-style array?) for it to work.

Would that make it work, or is there a cleaner way I'm missing? 🤔

Well if you just make it markdown-on-atproto, sync it to your local device and you can use either as an appview

I get that it's less of an issue for microblogging, but now that we have much more static/longform content put on protocol like articles and CVs it's becoming more of a thing
